Middle School Band Holiday Concert News
11-19-12
I want to start off by saying what a great job all of the middle school bands are doing so far this year! The 8th grade band did a great job during the 8th grade night football game. They represented themselves very well and sounded great at halftime. The Halloween parade was also a great performance. I thought they all looked and sounded fantastic. The 6th grade band is working hard and finished their first performance of the year with the Veterans Day assembly.
The holiday concert is Tuesday, December 11 at 7:00pm in the CHS/CMS auditorium. The concert dress for the students is black and white: white shirts and black slacks with black shoes and socks. Ladies, if you choose to wear a skirt it needs to be knee length or longer.
The call time for the concert is 6:15pm. The 6th graders will meet in the middle school band room to set their instruments up and report to the stage. The 7th graders will meet in the middle school choir room and the 8th graders will report to the middle school band room.
The concert will start with the 6th grade band followed by the 7th and then 8th grade bands. Once you are finished performing, you are highly encouraged to stay and watch the rest of the concert. The high school concert band and jazz band will be performing after the middle school portion of the concert.
Parents, if you need another copy of the middle school handbook that was given to the students at the beginning of the year, please ask them to pick up another one from me. All of the dates for the year are listed in the handbook to help you plan out your year. I also want to encourage you to check the middle school portion of the band blog page for news letters and band information that has been sent home with the students.
Parents, please remember you play a very important role in your student's music education. Encourage them to bring their instrument home and help set up regular practice times throughout the week. Just 15 minutes of practice a few times a week can make a world of difference in your child's musical development.
The last thing I want to remind parents and students about are our playing and written tests. If a student does not get a grade they are pleased with on a written or playing test, I will allow them to meet me before or after school to re-take the test for a higher grade. I understand we all learn at a different pace and my only concern is that the students successfully learn the material.
Respectfully,
Judson Burns

7th/8th Grade Band News
I first want to start off by saying what a great job everyone is doing and I am very proud of our progress and hard work. With that said, I also want to remind parents to help support your child's development in band by encouraging at home practicing. You would be surprised what just 15-30 minutes of practicing at home would do a few times a week!!!
There are two main forms of communication I will be using this year. The first is news letters sent home with your students. The second form is the Chillicothe Band blog page. If you go to the main Chillicothe City Schools web page, click on the arts tab. Once you are on the arts page, click on Chillicothe high school band link. On the high school band page, there is a middle school tab where you can find all of the news letters that I have sent home. I will also update all of the students' band grades every Friday to keep you informed with your students progress.
There are two performances coming up. Please remember both of these performances are graded performance, and we need 100% participation to look and sound our best! If you need an extra copy of the band handbook, there are extra copies your student can pick up in the band room with performance dates of the whole year.
8th Grade Night:
The first event of the year is just for the 8th graders. 8th grade night with the high school marching band will be Friday, October 26th. The students are to report to the middle school band room by 5:00pm. We will practice with the high school marching band, and then march over to Herrnstein field with the high school marching band at 6:30pm. We will sit with the high school marching band during the game and perform with them at halftime. Once the game is over, we will march back over to the middle school high school where your student can be picked up. The football game starts at 7:30pm and we should return back to the school around 10:30pm. You are allowed to pick your student up from the game after halftime but only legal guardians are allowed to pick up students with a note. I am not legally allowed to let anyone pick your student up except you. Students will be loaned a Chillicothe Middle School Band wind breaker. Students will need to layer underneath the jacket to stay warm. The dress attire will be jeans and tennis shoes along with the provided wind breaker. Hats and gloves are permitted as well.
Halloween Parade: (7th & 8th Grade Bands)
This year the Halloween parade is Saturday October, 27th. The parade starts at 7:00pm. Students are to report to the middle school band room by 6:00pm. All the students will be loaned a middle school band wind breaker to wear during the parade. Everyone needs to wear jeans along with tennis shoes and socks. The jackets are light weight so you will need to layer up underneath the jacket to stay warm. Once we finish the parade, you will be able to pick your student up at the school. Please remember only legal guardians are allowed to pick students. Attached you will find the map of the parade route.
